King of Love: Reflection

Thank you to all who attended the King of Love Vespers on Thursday, May 7 at First Presbyterian Church, Hammond, IN! How did God move in your life as you reflected upon Him? Here are my thoughts… Each time the sequence of Scripture, Hymn, Reflection and Prayer was experienced, I felt myself connecting a bit more closely with God. At the end of the final selection, The Lord’s Prayer, I was impressed with this thought: “How beautiful to experience what God does with my frailties.” I was moved to recommit my daily efforts to Him; to seek a deeper, more meaningful connection to Him. You’re Invited to King of Love Vespers – May 7

King of Love candlesOn National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m. – First Presbyterian Church, 6021 Hohman Avenue in Hammond, IN

You’re invited to King of Love Vespers, a 50 minute worship experience designed to provide time to consider what God is saying through His Word, using the Word being read, visual art, live music based on hymns grounded in Scripture, and prayer. It offers time to be still and listen to what God is saying to us in a culture that leaves little or no room for us to do so. Even in our own churches, there is little time if any, for quiet and reflection. In our world of constant noise, stimulation, communication and multi-tasking, we need ample time (not just a few seconds here and there) to be still and listen to what God is saying to us in His Word.

In response, having been challenged by God’s Word, we leave asking ourselves “How Then Shall I Live”?  Throughout Scripture, God says “Be still and know that I am God.” In a setting where the focus is God and His Word, the format for worship is reflective and personal. As a stand-alone service, King of Love Vespers is for any community that desires a one hour respite from the clamor of our world.

The nine hymn selections for violin and piano found on the King of Love CD by Stringsong are presented live, with original visual artwork projected during each piece. Worshipers have a devotional guide containing lyrics for each hymn and selected Scripture that is read aloud by a narrator before each selection. Various guiding questions and or statements included with each piece encourage participants to contemplate personal application of God’s Word. Following each hymn played, there is a prayer related to the focus of the hymn’s message.

Reflection on Scripture and words of the hymns, enhanced through visual art and musical expression offer each worshiper time to ponder God’s love, provision and restoration. After the final selection, the Lord’s Prayer, worshipers are encouraged to leave the sanctuary in reverent silence.

King of Love Vespers – A Live Worship Experience

February 19, 2015 was the debut of the King of Love Vespers! (This live worship experience is the King of Love CD as part of a multi-faceted, 50 minute reflective worship journey.)  Amazingly, the day set a record for low temperature here in the Chicago area. We had extreme cold: negative temps with even colder wind chills. Many schools were closed and it was recommended to stay indoors. Nevertheless, there were about 80 who braved the cold to come to the King of Love Vespers! We are thankful for a wonderful experience. The focus was the cross and Scripture, enhanced through original artwork, live music, hymn lyrics and spoken word. We encourage those who would like to experience the King of Love Vespers in their own church or organization to email us: stringsong@stringsongarts.com

Along with the debut of the  live Vespers, the Devotional Companion was released! This 26 page booklet following the 9 King of Love CD selections provides Scripture, artwork, the lyrics for the hymns, reflections, and prayers for each selection.

Here’s to 2014! Happy New Year!

Stringsong enjoyed a great 4th quarter, 2013 with a concert on November 10, CD sales at a regional craft/vendor fair, leading in worship at First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, IN, and several private engagements. Our final performance before Christmas–at Ultra Foods in Lansing, IL–was a highlight in the season as shoppers stopped to listen or sing along to familiar carols.

Stringsong became an official business partnership in the state of Illinois on December 11, 2013! Cheryl and Renée are looking forward to 2014 and its opportunities for service and company growth. The CD King of Love is available for purchase on the Stringsong Arts website; or, if you live in Lansing you may contact us via the website form and we’ll make arrangements to get it to you.

To start 2014, Stringsong will lead in worship at First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, IN on Sunday, January 5 at 10 a.m. Included are arrangements of Break Forth O Beauteous Heavenly Light and Shine, Jesus Shine for piano and violin.

May joy, love and peace be with you in the New Year!
